Writers

When I first got into Rocketshipping, a poster by the name of Helter Shipper over on Serebii forums would post images every week whenever we'd get a hug or something shippy like that. While doing that is what partly gave me the idea for this site, something else she did was post who wrote what episode. It quickly became apparent what writer was a fan of Rocketshipping, and which ones didn't seem to be interested.

I soon found it very fascinating to keep track of who wrote what episode, because you can guarantee to a fault when an episode has a chance to have some Rocketshippy moment in it. Because of my fascination with this, I decided to devote a section of the site to the writers of Rocketshippy episodes. While I'll list how many, and what writers have written Rocketshippy episodes, I'll also list upcoming episodes in which these writers are writing. While obviously they don't give us as much now as they used to, so it's not a guarantee that there will be something just because one of these people are writing an episode, it is a guarantee if that if one of these people aren't writing, there's almost zero chance of getting anything good that week. Hopefully you'll find all this information interesting, or at least give you a reason to look forward to an upcoming episode.

There have been over 500 episodes plus movies and specials of Pokemon, yet the show has been written by only 9 people, two of which don't seem to work on the show anymore. Of the 7 current writers, 4 of them currently write episodes in which there have been some Rocketshippy moments. These 4 will be listed in the first section, followed by the other 5.

Please note that the number of episodes reflect the amount of Rocketshippy episodes that I currently have accounted for on my site. Obviously these people have written a lot more shippy episodes than this, and the numbers in this section will frequently change as I continue to go through each episode. Just click on the number of episodes to see which Rocketshippy episodes these guys have written.

Writers

Atsuhiro Tomioka (15 episodes)

Atsuhiro Tomioka is the head writer of the Pokemon anime. That alone should make Rocketshippers feel good since if the head writer is on your side, the chances greatly increase of Rocketshipping becoming canon one day. Almost every single episode he writes nowadays is important to the show. If Rocketshipping were to ever become canon, you can bet we'd know about it first in his episodes. There's really been just one episode in Diamond and Pearl so far that you can say had as close to a hint as you can get (DP55), and he's the guy who wrote it. While most of episodes don't have any Rocketshipping in them, there's always a good chance for something if he's writing.

Junki Takegami (13 episodes)

While you may not have heard the name until now, I know you love at least one of his episodes, as he's the one who gave us the infamous "Holy Matrimony!" episode. Unfortunately, he doesn't write episodes nearly as often as he used to, and like the rest of the writers, he rarely gives us anything in what few episodes he does write. Strangely enough, he also wrote both Rocket-Dan Hosos. While we all enjoy the latter, the first one where Kojiro is going to stay with Rose, while Musashi could care less (4Kids actually added some Rocketshippy sounding lines. It was actually worse than it sounded), just makes you scratch your head and wonder if this is really the same guy that wrote "Holy Matrimony!". Still, I'll always think of him as the father of Rocketshipping, and if Musashi and Kojiro do ever get together, I really hope he's the one to write that episode. We really shouldn't hold one bad episode against him, especially because he more than made up for it with that second Rocket hoso.

Yukiyoshi Oohashi (10 episodes)

Much like Rocketshippers know Junki for "Holy Matrimony!", Rocketshippers will know this guy for the episode in which James says "I'd rather die! (than marry Jessie)" Yep, this is the guy. So what exactly is he doing in this section? Well believe it or not, he's given us plenty of good episodes, and ironically, of all the writers his episodes tend to be the ones that have Musashi and Kojiro acting the closest in Diamond and Pearl. So what happened in that one episode? Unlike that first Rocket hoso, I actually can explain what was going on here. First of all, all Kojiro did was scream "Nooooo!" not say he'd rather die. PUSA is to blame for that line. My theory is that the whole thing was supposed to be a joke because Kojiro's life is already what he thought it would be like in his daydream. While that might have sounded funny on paper, it clearly didn't work, and PUSA didn't help matters one bit. But we shouldn't judge this guy on one episode when he's written plenty of great episodes. And in my opinion, he's currently our best shot of having shippyness in an episode.

Aya Matsui (6 episodes)

Up until the title of DP92 was revealed, I had thought there were currently just three writers that gave us shippy moments. However, looking over this guy's episodes, he has given us some really cute stuff. The reason I had overlooked this guy for so long is because of just how few episodes he's written. He came on board when Advanced Generation started, and wrote just 25 regular series episodes (he also wrote one of the hosos as well as both Mystery Dungeon specials) and has written only 5 episodes of Diamond and Pearl so far, including DP92. I didn't pay attention to writers at the beginning of Diamond and Pearl, so it was easy to overlook this guy until now. While he may not write many episodes, and doesn't always give us stuff in the episodes he does write, it's always nice to know there's another writer out there who likes Rocketshipping.

Other Writers

Shoji Yonemura (14 episodes)

Go take a look at the pictures for episode 143. Seriously, just go to the Jouto section and look at them. Seen them? Yes? Fun too look at aren't they. So, just what happened with this guy? That's a really good question. For whatever reason, he just doesn't seem to be interested in Rocketshipping anymore. PM143 is really the only episode of the four I currently have for him that you can really call shippy, but after looking at those pictures you'd think he really likes Rocketshipping. While he has given us something kind of cute in Diamond and Pearl (DP95) this guy basically doesn't do Rocketshipping anymore. If we had more scenes like in DP95 I'd gladly add him to the above list. Unfortunately, DP95 is most likely an anomaly. As I go through the episodes, it'll be interesting to see how infrequently he's given us stuff. I'm quite curious when the last time was that he gave us something prior to DP95. Shōji Yonemura is basically the embodiment of the current problem of the writers cutting way back on Rocketshipping.

Takeshi Shudo (4 Episodes)

Takeshi Shudo used to be chief writer for the original series. The answer to what happened to this guy is pretty simple. He doesn't work on the show anymore. He only wrote 19 episodes, plus Mewtwo returns, and that was it. PM242 was the last episode he wrote, so he didn't even completely last through the original series. Hopefully he's doing well at wherever he works now, as he wrote some enjoyable episodes, even if they weren't very shippy. I can only assume that once the decision was made to have pokemon go beyond 52 episodes, that he decided he didn't want to be involved for anything longer. But that's just my personal speculation.

Shinzo Fujita (13 Episodes)

This guy has been around since the beginning of the show, yet he rarely has any Rocketshipping in his episodes. But we can't exactly expect every writer to be into it.

Masashi Sogo (6 Episodes

This guy is kind of interesting. Just like Aya Matsui, Masashi Sogo came on board during Advanced Generation, and has only written 5 episodes in Diamond and Pearl so far. But unlike Aya, Masashi hasn't written any episodes that contain Rocketshipping. In fact, DP42 can be considered the closest we've come to anti-Rocketshipping. So, just what do I find so interesting about him? Well, just take a look at this picture from DP42. It's shippy, yet anti-shippy at the same time if you know what's going on in that scene. There's also DP013. It's not shippy, but Musashi and Kojiro setting Nyasu up so the two of them could sunbathe in those skimpy bathing suits... he also wrote the episode where Sabonea leaves for what that's worth. It's hard to get a read on this guy, and I eargly await future episodes from him and/or getting to Advanced Generation so I can hopefully get a better feel for what this guy is all about.

Hideki Sonoda (4 episodes)

While he hasn't written an episode since since AG192, he has written the last few movies. He wrote 33 episodes in the original series, but just 4 in AG (As well as two Hosos). The last episode he wrote was the final episode of Advanced Generation. I guess somewhere at the beginning of AG things changed and for whatever reason he wouldn't be writing TV episodes anymore, as the episode he wrote before the final one was AG42. But at least he still works on the movies.
